About the Man

George Washington, the first President of the United States, was President for two terms from 1789-1797 before neglecting to take a third term. He died December 14th, 1799. He was riding his horse on his property in the frigid Virginia winter and afterwards he came down with quinsy. Knowing death was near, he told his doctor to give him a proper burial within two days. After confirming his doctor understood his request, he said “‘Tis well” and passed away shortly after 10 PM.

This is the first painting in a series of portraits of each of the US Presidents.
