Last night’s showing of The United Plates went off without a hitch. Topeka is not the easiest of towns to show and sell art in, especially when my own local newspaper, The Topeka Capital-Journal, decides to completely blackball my show. This month they were featuring the art of high schoolers in the paper, but the funny thing was they didn’t even mention my show at all.
However the show was even more successful than even I hoped for. The Upstage is a nice gallery space in downtown Topeka. Their previous average attendance for shows over the past couple of years has ranged from 60-100 people. I am very proud and humbled to say that last night’s show drew 225 people. It goes to show what hitting the streets with some guerrilla advertising and having a great set of friends and family can do for this type of an event. So thank you to everyone who came out last night. I greatly appreciate it.
I must also announce that due to the success of the April 3rd show I have been invited to come back for Friday, May 1st. So for those of you that may have missed it, you’ll have a second chance then. It will be on display through the end of May 2009.
