NCAA Championship

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I realized that I forgot to post about last nite’s NCAA Championship game. That’s probably do to the fact that after highly anticipating and watching every second of the first two rounds, devouring the second weekend in a similar manner and watching the Final Four games this past weekend, I was treated to what was in my opinion the most anti-climatic ending possible to this years tourny.

Alright, after a hectic couple of weeks prepping for the show, I finally got the shop on my site back in order. Hopefully it’s a sensible way to buy all the prints your heart desires. Now off you go, buy buy!

Show Signage

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I still have a little “graphic designer” blood in me. For the show I was asked to design the show section signage. Of course I took the idea of this show to the extreme – the 50 posters were divided into sections, much like a multiple course meal. I even included the necessary evil, a potluck. I wanted the show to be an experience… a completely non-serious one that forced the viewers to smile and have a little fun on a Friday night.

So I tried to design a series of similar signs that made distinctions between the sections yet maintained a fair amount of invisibility. These are what I came up with.

Show 1 = Smashing Success

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Last night’s showing of The United Plates went off without a hitch. Topeka is not the easiest of towns to show and sell art in, especially when my own local newspaper, The Topeka Capital-Journal, decides to completely blackball my show. This month they were featuring the art of high schoolers in the paper, but the funny thing was they didn’t even mention my show at all.

However the show was even more successful than even I hoped for. The Upstage is a nice gallery space in downtown Topeka. Their previous average attendance for shows over the past couple of years has ranged from 60-100 people. I am very proud and humbled to say that last night’s show drew 225 people. It goes to show what hitting the streets with some guerrilla advertising and having a great set of friends and family can do for this type of an event. So thank you to everyone who came out last night. I greatly appreciate it.

I must also announce that due to the success of the April 3rd show I have been invited to come back for Friday, May 1st. So for those of you that may have missed it, you’ll have a second chance then. It will be on display through the end of May 2009.

View the photos after the break.
