I really love the title of this interior design/life blog. They like my Nebraska print. I say you should hang them in your kitchen! Dining room? any room?

After many hours of preparation, The United Plates is ready for its gallery debut.
“”The United Plates” is taking part in the next First Friday art walk in Topeka. All 51 prints will be on display at The Upstage, a nice gallery spot located in downtown Topeka below the Jayhawk Tower.
Come out, see the show & support the arts. Admission is free, but you can purchase any of the prints from the show. Doing so would not hurt my feelings at all.
A portion of the proceeds will go towards renovating The Jayhawk Theatre.”
All 51 of the prints were custom framed in a sleek black gallery frame that I finished myself. I learned a lot about framing in the process. The original concept for this project was for all of the pieces to be viewed together in a single show. So if you’re in the Topeka area, come out and say hi. If you’re not, this is the first of hopefully many to come.
Without a doubt, for the past 15 years or so, this time of year has been my favorite. I remember skipping school as early as 3rd grade to watch these first round games. For some reason, that first tip on the first Thursday and Friday is unbeatable for me – no sporting event is better.

This year I have a different feeling, though. Usually I slave over my bracket’s hoping that this year is the year that fate has smiled upon me and that I can finally pick a near perfect bracket. I’ve always been faced with the struggle of picking the Kansas Jayhawks to win it all vs being logical. I always felt like I was letting my boys down if I didn’t believe they could win it all. Well, obviously, last years National Championship paid huge dividends to my bracket. So this year I just relaxed, made some picks, and enjoyed the games. It’s a good thing too because as the buzzer sounded after the first two games, my brackets were busted. I seriously believed in Butler and felt like Texas A&M was the Big 12 team that would go down in the first round.

When I think of my all-time favorite bands list, Ghoti Hook is high on it… really high. I absolutely love this band from the first time I heard Banana Man in the early summer of 1997, to the last time I sang along with them at their final show on July 6th at Cornerstone 2002 and beyond when I listened to their EP and almost nothing but it for the 6 hour drive home.
This release snuck up on me. Tuesday came around once again and I surfed over to an album release page to see what was happening this week and I was surprised to see M Ward had a new album out! Obviously this shows that I am not a diehard follower of his, but I enjoy his music greatly.
So I took the drive out to my local Best Buy to pick up the album. It’s the only “record shop” in my hometown. After 10 minutes of searching for a blue polo’ed employee (usually they hover like vultures, on this day none could be found), 20 more minutes of searching for the misfiled 3 copies they had in store and 3 more employees later, we find his new album filed nicely behind “MxPx.” Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? Why should it be filed with the other three M Ward records in the “W” section or even in alphabetical order behind another “Wa” artist?
