Competitions

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I finally entered The United Plates into its 5th and final juried competition today. It’s a tough task filling out all the forms, tagging the work, making sure everything is correct for each submission, mailing them off. They all seem to want different things. Then there’s the cost that’s a tough pill sometimes, but I’ve done my part. Now I wait.

The 5 competitions are as follows:

Print Regional Design Annual (as a poster series)
Communication Arts (as gallery art)
American Illustration 28 (as a series)
3×3 Illustration Annual 6 (as a series)
3rd Ward (for a chance to showcase in Brooklyn, NY)

Then it’s waiting. I believe it has a great shot at showing up in a few of those places. I could use the exposure.

Franz Ferdinand – Tonight

Band – Franz Ferdinand
Album – Tonight: Franz Ferdinand
Record Label – Domino
Date Released – January 19th, 2009

Franz Ferdinand is back after a lengthy delay. After the smashing success of their debut, it didn’t take them long to follow up with You Could Have It So Much Better. It couldn’t get much better than that record for me. I loved the debut like so many did, but I felt like the second album was even better. Sure it had its Beatles flair, but I felt like it was a fitting sound for the band.

The Insyderz

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

So I continue on down my trail of memories – tales of bands from the past. There are so many hidden in my youth that I could write one a day for a year and my blog would be overflowing. Right now that band is The Insyderz. (more…)

Fold Zandura

I love this band. I’ve been listening to them since 1997. I find it funny how great art, no matter what kind it is, typically goes overlooked and under-appreciated while it’s being created and quite possibly long after its old news. Sometimes, in never gets its dues. I think Fold Zandura will forever fall into that latter category.

Sketchy

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I will be posting as many sketches as possible in this section of my site. I’m attempting to turn off the filter in my mind and draw regardless of the outcome. I often spend too much time in “detail mode.” Similarly, I’m posting sketches in this blog regardless of quality. Draw! Draw! Draw!

Bill and Kernie

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I realized that I am blessed. For almost 20 years I was able to build a strong relationship with both of my great-grandparents. Many people can’t say the same for even their grandparents, let alone the next generation.

Thanks for nothing Wordpress

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Ok, so I’m not a web designer. I honestly hate it with a passion and the only reason I even attempt to do it a couple weeks out of the year is so I don’t have to mess with it the rest of the time. I have to be in the mood to care, and most of the time I just don’t. While I was redesigning this site, I just sucked it up and hoped it would be over with soon.

Therefore, I know I don’t have good coding practices and I have terrible organization skills.

Apparently, when you click “auto upgrade” in the new Wordpress, however, it takes upon itself the notion to delete all of your customizations. I haven’t backed up this site in a while, and I know that’s an important thing to do – but nowhere in the auto update page did it even mention it. So in 10 seconds, all of the customization on this site disappeared. So you’ll be seeing a mess here and there until I get it all back together.

Buy Prints Via Etsy

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

A little bit of business wizardry, I am now a member of the Etsy community. For those of you that have yet to purchase a print from me, you can do so on shorthanded.etsy.com as well as my store. There is no real difference, only that the Etsy community is a much tighter nit community of like minded artisans and I feel as though I would fit in better there and be more likely to sell out of these prints via that outlet.

New Mae video.
Mae has posted the new music video for “The House That Fire Built.” My “1 Song a Month for 12 Months” blog was quite popular and I’d like to say thanks to all those that read it. If any of you have not already done so, I suggest you go to whatismae.com or use the widget below download this newest single. If you were a fan of the bands Destination:Beautiful sound then I guarantee you’ll like the new song. Plus, the bands mission to build this family a home with all the proceeds is a noble cause.
